Who qualifies for medical care under FECA?

The FECA is administered by the Office of Workers’ Compensation Programs (OWCP), U.S. Department of Labor, through 12 district offices nationwide.
Under the Federal Employees’ Compensation Act, any federal civilian employee who sustains a work-related injury or disease is eligible for FECA benefits.
This coverage extends to a wide range of federal employees, including those working for agencies such as the IRS, TSA, USPS, VA, DHS, DOD, ICE, the Federal Bureau of Prisons, Border Protection Agency, Social Security Administration, and all members of the American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE).
FECA coverage is extended to Federal employees regardless of the length of time on the job or the type of position held. Probationary, temporary, and term employees are covered on the same basis as permanent employees. Also, part-time, seasonal, and intermittent employees are covered.
It’s important to note that diseases and illnesses aggravated, accelerated, or precipitated by employment are also covered under FECA. To qualify, the employee must provide medical and factual evidence showing that the employment contributed to the aggravation, acceleration, or precipitation of the medical condition.
