Who Qualifies for EEOICPA Coverage?

If you have been diagnosed with an illness potentially caused by radiation or toxic exposure during employment at a designated facility, you may be eligible. Covered illnesses include cancer, chronic silicosis, or beryllium disease.  The EEOICPA only compensates nuclear weapons workers who were employed after 1941.

Workers who satisfy certain requirements are eligible to receive compensation and medical coverage under the EEOICPA.  Once qualified, they are issued a Department of Labor (DOL) White Medical Benefits Card (White Card).

The EEOICPA program is designed to cover the medical needs of those who may have been impacted by exposure to ionizing radiation or certain toxic chemicals while employed by the DOE, an atomic weapons employer, or a Beryllium vendor facility. Others may qualify by having worked for DOE agencies, its contractors, or subcontractors.

Eligibility will generally be determined by:

• Who were your employers?
• What years were you employed on-site?
• At which sites did you work?
• What chemicals or radiation were present at the workplace having links to your specific diagnosis?
• What are the specifics of your diagnosis?
