Who qualifies for Black Lung benefits?

The Black Lung Benefits Program, established by the Federal Coal Mine Health and Safety Act of 1969, provides benefit payments to coal miners who have contracted pneumoconiosis (Black Lung Disease).

This includes home health services such as those offered by Caring Nurses.

To be eligible for this benefit program, you must be a coal miner who is totally disabled by pneumoconiosis (Black Lung Disease).

Certain transportation and construction workers exposed to coal mine dust may also qualify.

“Totally disabled” means you are unable to perform the work you did as a coal miner because breathing coal mine dust has permanently impaired your ability to breathe normally.
