Which costs are actually covered by EEOICPA?

You can file for any medical condition that you and your doctor believe is a result of radiation or chemical exposure during the time you worked at a designated facility.  That does not mean that your application will be approved.

When you get sick because of your work with specific harmful materials, you will need to make the case that your sickness is truly related to the exposure or an “Accepted” Illness.  In the application for your White Card, those possibilities are assessed and included or excluded from claims.  For example, if you have lung problems from working with beryllium and your doctor agrees, you can apply for coverage for your lung issues.  If approved, EEOICPA will pay for your doctor’s visits and treatments or necessary in-home care for that specific malady only.

So, if you are approved for help with your lung problems, your White Card benefits will pay for treatments that are just for your lungs. But if you also have a problem like diabetes, that is not covered by EEOICPA but would likely be covered by your traditional insurance.
